Uttar Pradesh: Communal violence in Ballia after a road accident, 16 arrested

Uttar Pradesh: Communal tension in UP’s Ballia district after a road accident on Tuesday. Incidents of mob violence were reported in Rastar district of UP after a man, Arvind Rajbhar passing through a locality of Ratsar township was hit by a motorcycle-borne man Intekhab Alam. Police arrested Alam after the family filed an FIR against him.

Arvind Rajbhar’s cycle was hit by motorcycle resulting in head injury. He was rushed to the hospital, as his condition deteriorated the doctors advised him to be shifted to a major centre for proper treatment. Angered over this, the family in return to Rastar informed their neighbours.

Within some time hundreds of youths gathered and attacked the Muslim dominated locality after rumours of Arvind’s death were spread with communal angle. The mob ransacked carts of fruit and vegetable vendors,  torched two shops in the area. However, swift action by the police helped in dispersing the violent mob. At least 16 trouble-mongers were nabbed from the spot.During the attack the frightened locals and traders fled the locality for safety.

Ballia SP Anil K umar said that the situation is now under control but heavy police force has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. He said that a circle officer has been asked to camp in the area to monitor the situation.

This is second communal violence in a week in Ballia, police has been blamed for not being vigilante to avert growing communal incidents.
