BJP Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan forced to delete his ‘Green Diwali’ tweets after facing backlash

The Supreme Court of India put a ban on the sale of firecrackers in New Delhi and NCR till November 1 ahead of Diwali on Monday, in a preemptive step to stop a toxic haze from engulfing the region like last year.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) supported the ban, as did global environmental group Greenpeace, which tweeted: “This is a nice step, let us look at other sources of #airpollution too.”

When most of BJP leaders and social media volunteer was opposing the move, Dr Harsh Vardhan tweeted welcoming the Supreme court move of banning firecrackers sales in Delhi / NCR. In no time he was flooded with criticism by many twitter users, even his own followers started questioning him of why he is supporting this ban. Immediately after being trolled over this tweet he deleted the tweet without any clarification.

Environmentalists have welcomed the court ban, which centres on a petition in the name of three children between six years and 14 months old. Last year, Delhi’s pollution levels stood at “severe” after Diwali, which leaves the air thick with smog and toxic particles, with residents complaining of severe breathing troubles.

Many people, few of them eveb claiming themselves as BJP supporters were not happy with his tweet, read tweets.

Below are few responses which Dr Harsh had to face and probably caused him to delete his tweets.
